1. Easy-Clean Performance Does Not Meet Requirements
Root Cause: Conventional additives such as leveling agents, polyethylene wax (PE wax), and polytetrafluoroethylene wax (PTFE wax) in the formulation may migrate to the coating surface and change the surface tension, thereby damaging the oil- and water-repellent effect. Excessive addition of fillers such as barium sulfate (more than 20%) can also make stains such as oily marker marks difficult to remove.
Solution: Select leveling agents such as modified polysiloxanes that have less impact on easy-clean performance to replace conventional additives; control the filler content within a reasonable range; and balance leveling performance and easy-clean performance during formulation design.
2. Coating Yellowing or Loss of Gloss After Long-Term Use
Root Cause: Ordinary household appliance powder coating formulations may not take long-term exposure to high temperatures into consideration during design. 4. Coating Peeling and Poor Adhesion
Root Cause: Oil, rust, and impurities on the substrate surface are not thoroughly removed, preventing the coating from forming a strong bond with the substrate. Incomplete curing can also result in insufficient coating hardness and adhesion.
Solution: Strengthen the pretreatment process by thoroughly removing oil and rust and, when necessary, carrying out pretreatment such as phosphating. Ensure complete curing—in some cases, the workpiece can be placed back into the oven for additional baking to complete the curing process. If the adhesion problem is severe, it is recommended to completely strip the old coating and recoat the surface.
5. Antibacterial Function Failure
Root Cause: Humid environments such as refrigerators, dishwashers, and food racks are prone to bacterial and mold growth. Before powder coating application, the coating undergoes a high-temperature mixing process above 180°C. Most conventional antibacterial agents decompose and become ineffective at such high temperatures, significantly reducing antibacterial performance.
Solution: Select specialized powder coating antibacterial agents that have undergone high-temperature resistance screening, such as using nano-encapsulation technology to protect the antibacterial agent, allowing it to remain non-discolored and non-volatile under baking conditions of 150–200°C. An addition level as low as 0.5% can achieve an antibacterial rate of more than 99%.
